Gunnar Freyr – Multimedia

Gunnar Freyr is not only a brilliant photographer, he’s a brilliant photographer with an absolutely incredible website too!

This is such a brilliant example of how to use web design to bring photography to the fore. What we especially love too, is the inclusion of a toggle which allows you to remove all the text from the website and focus only on the images. So clever!

You can visit Gunnar Freyr’s website here.

Sheba – Print Campaign

This campaign by BBDO for Sheba cat food uses photography in a really smart way. To show the viewer just how gourmet their cat food is, they’ve used a modern food photography style we’d usually expect to see for ‘human’ food. It’s such a clever way to use the medium itself to convey the message. Everything about these adverts looks like it should be for humans, and yet as the copy says: Reserved for cats.

Props to the art director on this campaign – it’s spot on!

Honours Class at the Zeitz MOCAA

Our Honours class recently visited the Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town. Here they met with Chad Rousseau, the editor of ArtThrob, South Africa’s leading contemporary visual arts publication.

They viewed Alfredo Jaar’s exhibition, The Rwanda Project, where they were tasked with two exercises designed to help them with the art review they have now written for ArtThrob.

Overall, our honours students enjoyed a day of stunning art, culture, and learning the ability to look at a creative outlet we have all come into contact with countless times, in a completely new lens.

To read the reviews written by our Honours students visit ArtThrob’s website here.

Getty Images – Art Direction

This campaign by Havas for Getty Images was created to remind people that even though Getty Images may be one of the go-to places for stock photography these days, they have an extensive photo archive spanning over 100 years!

We love how using just photography, they were able to immediately show this to the viewer. Great thought, great photography and great art direction!

Tequila Soledad – Packaging

What an incredible example of modern techniques meeting traditional design language to create something truly incredible. This work from Hi! Estudio for Soledad Tequila used 3D modelling and prototypes inspired by traditional clay from the Oaxaca region to create a look that is entirely luxurious and entirely Mexican and recognisable all at once.

We love how this elevates what we think tequila ‘should’ look like, while still being inspired by traditional Mexican craft. Absolutely stunning!

Aaron Parsons – Photography

Aaron Parsons is a UK-based photographer who works across a number of genres including landscape, event and music photography. Today, we’re sharing his series of photographs he took of London’s deserted tube system during lockdown. If you’ve ever visited London, you’ll know just how busy the tube system can get – so being able to see it entirely devoid of people like this is a fairly unique experience.

You can see more of Parsons’ work here.

White Claw Winter Games – Multimedia

This incredible idea by alcoholic seltzer brand, White Claw, allowed users in three cities across America to take part in a multimedia claw-grabbing game, with prizes delivered to their door within minutes! We can only imagine the amount of hard work and planning that went into making this incredible idea happen!

You can see more about the project here, or watch the video below.

Ryosuke Kosuge – Photography

Ryosuke Kosuge is a Japanese photographer who travels the length and breadth of Asia, taking photographs showing new perspectives, textures and patterns. What we love especially is the way his photographs are able to transport you to a new way of seeing. Not just the world around you, but the little details too.

We strongly suggest you follow him on Instagram here. With almost 600 000 followers, you definitely won’t go wrong!
