The Creative Exchange is built on the principles of learning outside of the classroom and peer collaboration. Each year a group of Academy students travel to a Southern African city and work on a short-term creative collaborative project with creatives based in the host city. The purpose of the collaborative project is to immerse students in the creative life of the city and introduce them to the key project spaces, creative hubs, institutions, and individual creatives in the host city. Creative Exchanges have taken place in Harare (Zimbabwe), Maputo (Mozambique) and Durban (South Africa).
This year’s Creative Exchange took place in Durban and we worked with the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of Kwazulu-Natal, as well as the Contemporary Archive Project and Maison Originals. We were also privileged to have a workshop hosted by artist Clive Sithole which resulted in a number of students experimenting with clay. Our students collaborated with other students, interns and self-employed creatives and produced a range of interdisciplinary projects which were exhibited in two pop-up exhibitions where all collaborators and other creatives were invited to come view the work produced.
We love this project by Media Monks which uses 3D graphics and multimedia to help all of us learn how important empathy is to all of us in the workplace. What could be more important?
Bakr Samir is an art director, 3D designer and illustrator based in Egypt. Today, we’re sharing some amazing work that he did, where he reimagined emojis in lush 3D worlds. What an incredible example of his craft!
Manuka honey has long been known as a really special honey with loads of health-giving properties. But for a brand like Manukora, who had been in the space for ages – it was time for a rebrand and an update.
They worked with Pendo to reimagine what their brand could be – and came up with this really powerful new look and feel. We love how it’s inspired by healthcare and skincare design aesthetics, creating a product that really looks like it delivers on health, more than it does on ‘food’.
The Stellenbosch Academy of Design & Photography is proud to announce that we are the only school from the Middle-East and African continents to have made the winning circle in this year’s One Show Young Ones Competition.
Congratulations to our alumni, and 2021 graduates, Cheyenne Miller and Jared Laggar!
Cheyenne received a Silver ADC Cube award for her work titled; Erascism
Cheyenne explains that; Eracism is a tool kit specifically developed to end racism from the root. We believe that through daily teaching & curating a safe learning environment, everyone can benefit from anti-racist education.
Jared received a merit award for his work titled; Eli-man-ate
An incredible campaign around creating awareness about Toxic masculinity. As Jared explains in his own words; Elimanate is amultidisciplinary awareness movement aimed at educating and informing men, from boys in high school to young adults/fathers in an attempt to fix the issue of toxic masculinity one man at a time.
We love this public work that VMLY&R did for Pierre Fabre in Milan. They set up a ‘fake’ fortune teller who read people’s palms, when in fact they were given a full body reading by a dermatologist. Such a smart way to raise awareness about melanoma and other skin conditions!
We love these out of home posters that were made for the Brooklyn Film Festival. Not only is the messaging provocative (Something to Offend Everyone), but the art direction and illustration used for these is just great!
Brielle Porter is a game developer and photographer based in the USA. Today, we’re sharing images she took in Marina Del Rey, an area of LA. We love how she’s captured such a sense of what the area is like through great crops and composition.
Masterful work!
