For the Love of Bread – Multimedia

Nightjar Studio created this incredible website for Sonoma Baking Co’s new documentary series that tells the story of bread in a number of different countries across the world.

With considered typography, a lovely black and white colour palette and some really smart use of mouseovers and other elements – this website is nothing short of perfection. Just like freshly baked bread!

You can visit the site here.

Lindsey Rickert – Photography

Wow! Lindsey Rickert definitely knows how to use light to her advantage! These shots of flowers and plants she called Otherworldly Botanicals are such a bold statement.

She describes her style as being influenced and inspired by film makers and you can really see how she brings that drama and sense of spectacle to her imagery. To be even more inspired, we strongly suggest you check out her website here.

Loe Lee – Illustration

Loe Lee is an illustrator living and working in New York with a client list that includes Grubhub, Adobe, Google Play Music, NFL, Mattel and Viacom.

Today, we’re sharing a series of images she created called Creatures of Hope, where she used illustration and photography to create fantastical scenes of New York City. It’s fair to say we absolutely love these!

You can see more of her inspiring work on her website here.

Nuud Chewing Gum – Packaging

Mother Design’s work for Nuud chewing gum is so much fun! To launch this new chewing gum brand, that uses natural ingredients as opposed to single use plastics, they went with a bold, simple design that really stands out from the crowd.

We love the illustrations and clever logo design too. What a special brand identity!

Andrés Lozano – Illustration

Andrés Lozano is a Spanish illustrator who now lives and works in London. He’s created illustrations for clients like The New York Times and Google and also exhibits work in the more fine art space too.

Today, we’re sharing a map he created for Carnaby Street in London, along with some gorgeous spot illustrations to go along with it.

Coenraad Torlage Wins Student Photographer of the Year at the Sony World Photography Awards!

We are so unbelievably proud to announce that current 3rd year BA Degree photography student, Coenraad Torlage has won the 2021 Student Competition Sony World Photography Awards.

From left to right: Garth Meyer (3rd year photography lecturer), Coenraad Torlage (winner) and Garyth Bevan (2nd year photography lecturer).

“Torlage impressed the judges with his response to the second brief ‘Our Time’ where students were challenged to show a story describing the way their contemporaries see the world and how they plan to change it” – World Photography Organisation

Official Info from their website:

A huge well done to Coenraad Heinz Torlage (South Africa) for winning this year’s Student Photographer of the Year for his series Young Farmers. He is awarded €30,000 of Sony digital imaging kit for his institution plus global online coverage. Torlage impressed the judges with his response to the second brief ‘Our Time’ where students were challenged to show a story describing the way their contemporaries see the world and how they plan to change it.

And here’s Coenie in his own words, explaining his rationale behind the work:

Young Farmers | Coenraad Heinz Torlage

I was born on a farm in South Africa, and grew up with cattle, horses, donkeys and chickens, many of which I still own and love to this day. Farming is an intense occupation that requires passion and unwavering dedication. I set out to photograph young people who choose this life because, like me, they believe they have a responsibility. This sits heavily on all of our shoulders. South Africa is an unpredictable land with severe droughts, safety concerns and debates around land ownership. Despite these challenges, young farmers are working toward a fairer and more equitable future of sustainable food security. They are my peers, my friends and my family, and this is our time to feed the nation.

To say we are over the moon is an understatement! We are so happy and so proud of Coenie and our lecturers who have helped guide him through his journey with us at the Academy.

POLA – We Care More 2029 Vision

This multimedia project for POLA, a Japanese skincare brand, uses really clever illustration and design in the multimedia space to bring a feeling of care to life. It’s interesting to think how a lot of work online can potentially end up feeling quite cold or sterile but this work has managed to capture care and humanity so well, while still delivering on the brand’s vision.

We love this!
