MullenLowe New York were given an interesting communications challenge: Bring to life JetBlue’s seasonal trips to Palm Springs (a decidedly retro holiday destination in the US). There are a number of ways to solve this kind of problem – trying to update it for now could be one, for example.
You could just go all in on the retro / nostalgia feeling and ride it for all its worth. That’s what MullenLowe did here and honestly – it’s just perfect.
Not only did they launch a number of spot on retro print ads, they also ran a four page retro advertorial in a local newspaper, painted one of the JetBlue planes in a super retro look and on top of that – opened a pop up travel agency that was decked out perfectly to look like it came straight from the sixties.
